Mary Jane Smith, a part-time country singer hailing from Arlington, Virginia, debuts on a CD locally recorded, produced and arranged by Jimmy Hodge of Blackjack.  Opting for familar material, Mary Jane offers her interpretations of chestnuts such as Johnny Cash's Tennessee Flat Top Box and Kathy Matthea's 18 Wheels and A Dozen Roses, and my personal favorite, Patsy Cline's Crazy.  Jimmy contributes some masterful steel guitar and tasteful lead guitar licks to color the songs apprpriately.  Presenting only one original song, this CD breaks no new ground but it is a pleasant listening experience and an encouraging debut.

I have been fortunate to be able to see and hear many local muscians in the DC Metro area, but rarely have I heard one as good as Mary Jane Smith.  Mary Jane brings to the local music scene a broad talent and stage presence that few performers ever display.  In the country music genre, she can bring tears to your eyes when she does a Patsy Cline song, and in the folk/blues genre, she grabs your attention and doesn't let go.  this lady is going places..and if you're lucky, you'll get to be a part of her journey.  Catch her at one of her performances, you'll definitely see what I mean.

Mary Jane Smith is one up and coming Country singer you don't want to miss.  A very listenable and radio friendly vocalist putting new luster on the Country classics.
